From our series, "Sermon on the Mount." Living God's way leads to our blessing, but do we really believe that? Especially with verses that feel illogical or upside down, like Jesus' command to love our enemies? Pastor Gerald Murphy of Garden City Church in Columbus, OH shares insights on how Jesus' teaching invites us to a higher standard of love and righteousness than false religious leaders and our surrounding culture, urging us to extend grace, forgiveness, and generosity beyond what is expected. As we do, we become like our Father in heaven, transformed into the kind of human he has created us to be.

Anger is Murder?

Sunday Oct 06, 2024

Sunday Oct 06, 2024

From our series, "Sermon on the Mount." Jesus is the ultimate interpreter of God's Word, because he is also it's Author. He begins the main section of his SOTM by using six examples from the Law and Prophets to correct first century Jewish interpretations, and expose how our internal attitudes often reveal areas of disconnect between what we say we love and believe and what we actually do. In Matthew 5:21-26, Jesus addresses our (mis)understanding of murder, challenging us to look beyond the mere act to the anger and contempt that often reside just beneath the seemingly calm surface of our lives.

Be(coming) Perfect

Sunday Sep 29, 2024

Sunday Sep 29, 2024

From our series, "Sermon on the Mount." Central to Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount is the call for his disciples to "be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." But what does perfection look like? While total submission to God is included in Jesus' definition, the idea of perfection in Jesus' day is more connected to wholeness and completeness than never making a mistake.
Join us as we explore how this understanding of perfection can transform our spiritual journey, encouraging us to live a life wholly devoted to God, embracing both the promise and the process of becoming more like Him.

Welcome back to the second episode of All Saints Off the Cuff! In this episode, Meghan and David dive into the intricate world of kingdom theology as it intersects with modern politics. With a mix of humor and deep reflection, they explore the implications of living as citizens of God's kingdom while engaging with contemporary political issues.
The conversation kicks off with personal anecdotes, highlighting how politics has shaped their lives and faith journeys. They discuss the importance of being a prophetic witness within one's political party and the challenges of maintaining Christian integrity in a polarized world.
Meghan and David also tackle the pressing question of whether Christians have a civic duty to vote, offering nuanced perspectives on the complexities of political engagement. They emphasize the need for Christians to lean into love and reconciliation, drawing from the early church's example of radical generosity, multi-ethnic fellowship, and unwavering commitment to justice.
As they navigate hot-button issues and share practical advice for fostering unity within a diverse church community, Meghan and David remind us that our ultimate allegiance is to Jesus and His kingdom. Tune in for a thought-provoking and inspiring discussion that encourages us to live out our faith in every aspect of our lives.

From our series, "Sermon on the Mount." When Jesus calls his followers salt and light, he gives us a new identity that comes with renewed responsibility to spread God's kingdom of light wherever we find darkness. While that may at times feel abstract, we can live out our kingdom calling in extremely practical ways, like making disciples and loving our neighbors. As All Saints continues to grow as a church in City Heights, our friend Jane Register, who is the Program Director for World Relief in Southern California, shares a bit of her testimony and invites us to become Jesus' presence to our immigrant and refugee neighbors right here.
