When we behold the Lamb, we see the true definition of God's love and how different it is from the love we've experienced or show others. Yet Jesus gives a new command: love one another "as I have loved you." What kind of love is this? What does it require of us? And what is it rooted in? Listen now as Pastor Sonny Smith from Detroit Church offers a word we pray marks our community.

Only by abiding in Christ can we bear fruit that remains, because Jesus is the true source of all life. When we lean back into his love and surrender ourselves to God's process of making us more fruitful, which John 15 calls "pruning," we find that we can follow Jesus more fully and forever–not just a little bit and sometimes.

Discipleship begins, ends, and everything in between, with BEHOLDING THE LAMB. Our walk with Jesus is a repeated process of redirecting our gaze away from lesser loves, dimmer lights, partial truths, and back towards him. This is something we do in community, as we constantly point one another back to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth and remind ourselves what that means for us: when we Behold the Lamb, we behold our salvation.

From our series, "Sermon on the Mount." As Jesus prepares to send his disciples back down the mountain, he warns them, and us, that our ability to enter his kingdom depends on how we respond to his message. Will we embrace Jesus as the True King and obey his teachings as he guides us down the narrow path that leads to life? Or will we choose the path of least resistance that leads only to destruction? What's more, wolves lie in wait to devour, pretending to be sheep so they can lead us astray. But don't worry: wolves don't win in this story. Jesus does. We have only to keep hold of his outstretched hand.
