Salt and Light w/ Jane Register

From our series, "Sermon on the Mount." When Jesus calls his followers salt and light, he gives us a new identity that comes with renewed responsibility to spread God's kingdom of light wherever we find darkness. While that may at times feel abstract, we can live out our kingdom calling in extremely practical ways, like making disciples and loving our neighbors. As All Saints continues to grow as a church in City Heights, our friend Jane Register, who is the Program Director for World Relief in Southern California, shares a bit of her testimony and invites us to become Jesus' presence to our immigrant and refugee neighbors right here.

Postures of Prayer: Contemplation and Contending

From our series, "Postures." Since God's posture towards us is love, how should we posture ourselves towards him? The answer: in prayer. For Christians, the goal is not necessarily to be “good” at praying, but to become a people who prays, who position ourselves before the living God as those ready to receive all he has to offer and to participate in his work in our world.
This week we look at the Lord’s Prayer as a guide for how we posture our hearts and bodies in prayer. We learn that pray is for us and those around us, and that a thriving prayer life is one that is both contemplative (reflecting on who God is) and contending (fighting for an on-earth-as-it-is-in-heaven reality). God's Posture Towards Us

From our series, "Postures." Our ability to practically follow Jesus often depends on the posture of our hearts towards God. But how we relate to God so often depends on what we believe he is really like, or how we think he really feels about us. Are we expectant of love? Or anticipating punishment? Thankfully, in the midst of our fear, uncertainty, and even our failures, we meet a Savior who gets low, lifts us up and says do not be afraid. Why? Because God is love, and perfect love drives out all fear.

Longings and Liturgies

Paul ends his letters to the Ephesians with a blessing of grace to all who love Jesus with "incorruptible love." This is beautiful, but it also implies that our loves can be corrupted. In fact, what we love and long for are constantly being shaped by our spiritual habits–or lack thereof.
As we transition into a new series called POSTURES, we discuss the transformative power of worship, not just as a musical genre but as a whole-life response to God's love. Drawing from the Psalms, we see how honest expressions of longing and lament can lead to renewed hope and trust in God, reorienting our hearts towards him in the midst of our daily struggles and anxieties.
Our spiritual habits are important because they shape our deepest desires, so we must consistently bring our rival longings before the Lord in worship. Join us as we reflect on the question Jesus posed to His first disciples, and still asks us today: "What do you want?"
